This black drivers seat bolster Sussex has severe damage. As you can see there is a hole in the leather next to the stitching as well as colour loss and cracking.
Ideally this would have had a new leather panel however the Sussex customer opted for a cheaper option as many do.
Before

After

In order to repair the Sussex black drivers seat bolster we would begin by stitching the hole together. We use a curved needle in order to get to all of the holes required effectively.
First the technician would thread the needle under the leather to enter a hole from the underside approximately 4 holes prior to the tear.
They would then enter the hole directly opposite and thread the needle through to come out of the hole next to it. This is repeated as far as the holes on the side of the tear can be used. Once the hole before tear is reached the technician will use the needle to pierce a hole slightly further up in the leather. They will then enter this hole and thread the needle through to pierce a hole the appropriate distance away as per the others, and then pull the leather together and tighten the cotton to pull the tear in. The torn leather will then fold slightly inwards to create a new seam line.
The original holes on the other side of the leather will still be used all along but new holes will be made along the side of the torn leather until the hole is successfully stitched back together. Once the tear is fully sealed the technician will use the original holes past the tear for approximately 4 holes worth.
Now that it’s secure the technician will tie off the cotton with three knots and cut next to them in order to hide the finish point as much as possible.
Now that the tear has been successfully stitched back in, the technician will clean the bolster using leather cleaner and a lint free cloth.
Next the technician will prep the area using leather prep and a lint free cloth.
Once the area is cleaned and prepped it is ready to go. The technician will use a leather filler to go over the cracks on the bolster. These will then be dried with a hairdryer.
PLEASE NOTE EACH JOB IS DIFFERENT AND THESE STEPS ARE DOWN TO THE TECHNICIANS DISCRETION. FURTHER STEPS MAY BE NECESSARY, OTHERS MAY NOT BE NECESSARY AT ALL.
Once the filler is dried the technician will sand it down using 400grit sandpaper.
Now that it is smooth and level the technician will apply a base coat of leather dye with a lint free cloth.
Next the technician will spray the area with leather dye using an air compressor.
Once the area is dyed and dried the technician will apply the final layer.
After Completion
Lastly the technician applies the lacquer. This is used to seal the Sussex repair. All of our products are water based except for the lacquer. Therefore the car seat needs to be left in order for all of the products to have enough time to cure.
Now that the Sussex car seat bolster repair is completed the car seat needs to be left for a couple of hours in order to dry. Then it is touch dry should the customer wish to touch it. Although this is not recommended. The area should be left for 48 hours as a minimum until it is used but this depends on how much colour is applied.
